“Decluttering and Reorganizing are truly the “starting point” of any project where additional services are needed for a space/place that requires attention to give you peace of mind.
Whether you are starting to “declutter” to organize your space because you have to:
- Move/sell your home/downsize- you want your home to attract potential buyers
- Consolidate the estate of a loved one who passed away
- Implement better storage/inventory control of key spaces (closets/garage/attic/basements)
- Make intelligent choices of what items work best in an organized space
- We help you with the additional services of deciding what to keep/sell/donate or dispose of
NXT Stages summarizes this with this formula illustration:
“Always subtract (let go of items) and divide (into categories of: keep/sell/donate/discard) before you ever add anything NEW to your space (shelves, closets, drawers)”
NXT Stages will do the “heavy lifting” with a wide array of additional services to give you the peace of mind you desire and deserve.
Are You Ready To Declutter Your Space And De-Stress?
Creating a well-organized, clutter-free environment is both a huge mental and physical effort. We handle the heavy lifting of getting the action plan in place. We understand that despite your best intentions, you never seem to have time or the motivation to get started on our own. When you decide that “you are ready” it’s a great option to hire a professional organizer like Dorian Stern and NXT Stages to work with you to get it done and guide you with “best practices” to keep your space organized and manageable going forward.
Decluttering And Deciding How To Let Go of Items That Are No Longer Useful-
Your home is full of things you wanted but you know some things have to go so you can move forward. But this is easier said than done because your emotions take control, and memories flood back. This is where an objective based partner such as Dorian can help.
Tackle Sentimentality To Achieve Storage Solutions
NXT Stages will guide you through the principals of how to overcome some of the most common issues that lead us to holding onto “more than we need” and that “letting go” is a healthy step in the right direction. Here’s a SHORT LIST of examples:
• “Death Cleaning”- is a term you may have heard about lately. It refers to taking assessment of your “collections” of items you THINK your heirs will want and value when you pass away. Truth is-the best time to assign your items to loved ones in NOW-while you are alive and can be assured that they really want them and will use them. Sadly- once you are gone- the burden of addressing all your things is overwhelming to your heirs. Do what you can NOW to pare down and enjoy the experience of “giving” what you love to those you love– the time is NOW.
• Save it for later Use it then- We tend to collect a lot of seasonal/decorating items, many of which we hardly use and are spending money or using up space to store in places we lose track of. A common suggestion with clothing for example is: “if you haven’t worn it in over 6 months or a year- let it go!” There are so many wonderful nonprofit organizations that need donations of clothing for individuals to interview for jobs and housing appointments. Less for you-Means more to them!
• If I let it go- I will eventually need it- No you wont! We tend to hold onto too many of various things: shopping bags, old tools, dishes, books (the list is endless)- we have multiples of any one thing- and its taking up space for items we really do need for the right reasons.
• I’ll fix it and use it eventually- Items like clothing with stains, tears- broken appliances, kitchen items like rusted pans or cracked dishes- get rid of what doesn’t work they way it should- you can always get something NEW (in moderation of course-lol)
• Mind the expiration dates- Food, spices, medications, makeup and other hygiene items do have valid expiration dates-its good for both your MENTAL and PHYSICAL health to purge the products on a regular basis
• My stuff is really valuable- No doubt SOME items are valuable and should be treated as such. Jewelry, first edition books, coin/stamp/art and other collections, deserve to be preserved and cherished AND STORED in the best way possible. Maybe the market value of your items fluctuates- maybe selling the items under the guidance of a qualified appraisal/auction house would be a wise option. The best solution is to know what you have and make the best choice based on your current situation.
• My items carry a lot of memories/sentimentality- Mementos like photographs, letters, children’s art or awards, for example, all represent milestones of reminders in our life. Given the advance of technology and “there’s an APP for everything”- you can “hold onto the memory” without holding onto the “thing” it represents. Digital storage of photos and other printed material, transferring of older music platforms (records, tapes and CD’s) to downloads- lets you keep what you love without taking up the space.
